Natchez Trace Parkway to Rehabilitate Ridgeland Crafts Center

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 18, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

This facility, originally constructed in the late 1950s, was used for many years by the Mississippi Craftsman Guild. Since construction was completed on the Guild's new facility on Rice Road, the building has remained unoccupied.

The rehabilitation work will restore the facility to its original purpose as a visitor contact station. Major elements of the work will include establishment of a staffed interpretive exhibit area, creation of a sales outlet for Eastern National Parks and Monument Association--the official sales partner of the National Park Service--and renovation of the restroom facilities.

Work will begin the week of May 18, when the restrooms will be closed. Portable-use facilities will be provided for the public for the duration of the project. The renovation effort is scheduled to be completed in late June.
