Seneca Falls - Preservation treatment work has begun on the historic Wesleyan Chapel on Fall Street in Seneca Falls. Women's Rights National Historical Park invites the public to an open house on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, for an update on the project. The open house will be held in the park visitor center, 136 Fall Street, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
In March 2006, the National Park Service initiated a process that identified strategies to enhance the long-term preservation and visitor experience at the Wesleyan Chapel, site of the 1848 women's rights convention. Through an informational newsletter and public meetings, ideas were gathered to achieve these goals. A range of alternative treatments were developed, evaluated, and published in an Environmental Assessment in April 2007.
The preferred alternative, rehabilitation of the Wesleyan Chapel, will include the rebuilding of north and south walls and replacement of doors, windows, and roofing.
