The storm that hit this area on Wednesday, August 19 has left some large trees unstable and posing a potential threat to traffic on Furnessville Road (E. County Road 1500 N), a road owned by the National Park Service. For public safety, Furnessville Road will be closed between School House Road and N. Veden Road (E. County Road 200) until the area is safe.
Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is one of 391 units of the National Park System ranging form Yellowstone to the Statue of Liberty. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore includes 15 miles of the southern shoreline of Lake Michigan and 15,000 acres of beach, woods, marshes, and prairie inn the northwest corner of Indiana. More than 2 million visitors come to this national park each year.
