Lunchtime Lecture Series: Re-connecting Children with Nature

Lunchtime Lecture Series: Re-connecting Children with Nature

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 26, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

WEST GLACIER, MONT. - Just as children need good nutrition and adequate sleep, research is showing that they may also need contact with nature for optimal health. Many parents may wonder why is it so hard to get them to go outside. At Glacier National Park, many staff members are dedicated to help reconnect children with the great outdoors.

Join Laura Law, Glacier’s Education Specialist, for a presentation on rediscovering your childhood passions and finding out why it is “essential" for you to share them with children. Meet at the West Glacier Community Building, located in the headquarters area of Glacier National Park, on Thursday, May 6th, from 12 - 12:45 p.m. and feel free to bring your “brown bag" lunch along.

Laura has been working in education with the National Park Service for more than 14 years, including areas as diverse as the Everglades and Olympic National Parks. She has a passion for learning about wild places and hopes to stir that same vision in others, especially kids. Learn how Glacier and other national parks are striving to connect with families and children. Who will be our wildland stewards without a new generation experiencing nature first hand?

The Brown Bag lectures are made available by Glacier National Park’s Crown of the Continent Research Learning Center: https://www.nps.gov/glac/naturescience/ccrlc.htm.
