Visitors are invited to join a Ranger for a hike under the full moon on Thursday, September 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. “Visitors can experience Whiskeytown’s scenic beauty bathed in soft silvery moonlight as we enjoy an easy hike along one of Whiskeytown’s historic water ditches and discover the wonders of the Autumn Equinox," stated Superintendent Jim Milestone. “For those who haven’t been on any of the park’s trails after the sun sets, this program offers an introduction to a darkened, yet equally beautiful world, which is rarely visited by humans."
The trail that has been selected for the hike is rated “easy" and amounts to a four-mile roundtrip adventure; however, the distance may be shortened as necessary for time and group ability. Visitors interested in joining the hike must register by calling (530) 242-3462 Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Details about the hike and trailhead directions will be shared with those registered.
For more information about Whiskeytown, please stop by or call the Visitor Center at (530) 246-1225 during the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily. The Visitor Center returns to winter hours beginning Tuesday, September 7, and will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can also visit the park website at www.nps.gov/whis
