WRANGELL ST ELIAS SUBSISTENCE RESOURCE COMMISSION TO MEET IN TOK OCTOBER 6 and 7

Copper Center, AK - The Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Subsistence Resource Commission will meet at Fast Eddy's Restaurant in Tok, Alaska (Mile 1313 Alaska Highway) on Wednesday, October 6, and Thursday, October 7, to consider a range of issues related to subsistence hunting and fishing in the park. Commission business will include discussion of wildlife conservation concerns and recommendations for possible regulation changes concerning subsistence firewood harvest and chainsaw use. There will also be updates on the draft Chisana Caribou Herd Management Plan and the draft Nabesna Off-Road Vehicle Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement. The meeting is open to the public, and public testimony opportunities are provided. Written comments may also be submitted through the park subsistence coordinator by October 4 for presentation at the meeting.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, and will recess at 5 p.m. An evening session is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 6th to allow community members unable to attend the daytime meeting to share their concerns about subsistence. On Thursday, October 7, the meeting will reconvene at 9 a.m. and adjourn when business is completed.
