Parks Highway Traffic Detour in Denali National Park and Preserve

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 29, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

Due to the excavation of a large trench across the Parks Highway at Mile 237, near the entrance to the Denali Park Road, travelers will experience a detour beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, October 4 until 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 8. The trench will accommodate piping for the new wastewater treatment facility for the park’s entrance area, which is under construction west of the highway.

Traffic will be diverted around the trench via a 100 yard temporary bypass lane constructed on the west side of the road. Flagger personnel will control traffic 24 hours a day until the project is complete. Minimal traffic delays are expected.

Additional park information is available at www.nps.gov/dena or by calling (907) 683-2294 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
