Roadside pullout construction to begin Nov. 1, 2010
The National Park Service, Fort Union National Monument in partnership with Cornerstones Community Partnerships will begin construction of two new roadside pullouts on Monday Nov. 1, 2010. The project will take place west of I 25 and north of Tiptonville, NM on NM 161, mile marker 25 and 26. Construction is expected to last three weeks and to have minimal impact to traffic on NM 161.
The National Park Service, Fort Union NM and Santa Fe National Historic Trail, Cornerstones Community Partnerships and the New Mexico Department of Transportation are partnering on the new interpretive wayside exhibit project and roadside pullouts. The waysides, located within sight of the trail and of the fort at the pullouts, will convey the rich and diverse local histories associated with the Santa Fe Trail and Fort Union.
