Lowell's Hidden History
Weekends at 2:30; 60-90 minutes in length, Free.
Join Lowell National Historical Park Rangers as they present walks and talks on numerous aspects of Lowell's history. These popular programs will be offered weekends in December and offered throughout the winter.
Saturday, December 4
Sumter Surrenders! Volunteers called!Men of Lowell left their jobs to become citizen soldiers. "Join them" as they travel to defend Washington. Hear the cheers in northern cities and "witness" the attack in Baltimore by a mob of thousands. This is their story, as told by a Park Ranger at the Lowell National Historical Park Boott Cotton Mills Museum, 115 John St.
Sunday, December 5
"Preserving Lowell's Past"
Explore Lowell's historic preservation efforts during this program focusing on the Hamilton Canal Project. This tour includes a walk through the Hamilton Canal District and a discussion of the National Park Service's local and national role in the historic preservation movement. Tour begins at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center, 246 Market Street.

"Tunes and Tales of the Mill Era"
Follow the story of the people and work in Lowell from the farm to the modern era, through music, story, and song. Discover this saga with vocals, fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mountain dulcimer. Program begins at Lowell National Historical Park Theater, 246 Market Street.

"Mill Girls and Immigrants"
Explore the stories of Lowell's working people and the places they called "home." This walking tour will visit neighborhoods like "the Acre" and "Little Canada" and visit a restored boardinghouse. Tour starts at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center, 246 Market Street.
