The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 24, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

SAN ANTONIO, TX- On Saturday, June 25, 2011, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will be in San Antonio, Texas to participate in several events highlighting President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors Initiative.

At 10:45am, Secretary Salazar will join local officials, members from the San Antonio River Authority, and other project partners to celebrate the progress made on the San Antonio River Improvements Project. The project, expected to restore the river’s ecosystem and connect the local community to the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, serves as an excellent example of the type of community-driven river restoration initiatives the America’s Great Outdoors initiative is working to support. At 3:30pm, Salazar will also tour Mission San Jose, an important part of the National Park system currently undergoing extensive preservation work.

At 1:15pm, Salazar will deliver a keynote address to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) 28th Annual Conference. Salazar will offer remarks on President Obama’s vision and how the Hispanic community plays an integral part of that plan to win the future. Salazar will also discuss Interior’s American Latino Heritage Initiative to honor and recognize the contributions of Latinos that are woven throughout the American story.

All events are open to credentialed media. Additional information provided below.
