Lightening Strike disrupts phone and internet access

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 18, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

All phones and internet access are down in park facilities located in the Homestead area of Everglades National Park. This outage was caused by a direct lightening strike to park communications equipment. Staff are working to restore service to these facilities as soon as possible. It is anticipated the outage could last up to 48 hours.

The park remains open with visitor centers and trails open to the public. Please check our social media links or park internet for updates.
