Gateway Celebrates NPS Founders Day With Fee-Free Day

MEDIA ADVISORY

WHAT: Celebrate the 95th birthday of the National Park Service by visiting Gateway National Recreation Area. Parking fees will be waived Thursday, August 25.

WHERE: Sandy Hook Unit, Highlands, N.J., and Jacob Riis Park, Queens, N.Y. All other areas of Gateway National Recreation Area are always free.

WHEN: Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011.

WHY: Every year, the National Park Service celebrates NPS Founders Day with a fee-free day on Aug. 25, the day President Woodrow Wilson signed the Act of Congress that created the agency. Every year on Aug. 25, Gateway waives its parking fees, as do most National Park Service sites which charge parking or entrance fees.
