Tenth Anniversary of 9/11 to be commemorated at Mount Rushmore National Memorial

KEYSTONE, SD - In solemn remembrance of the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, Mount Rushmore National Memorial will illuminate the sculpture through the night of Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011.

The regular Evening Lighting Ceremony will begin at 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 11. Following the ceremony the carving will remain illuminated until sunrise on Monday, September 12. Park Rangers will be available all night on the Grand View Terrace. The public is invited to visit the Shrine of Democracy anytime throughout the evening or night to remember and reflect.

The National Park Service buildings and concession facilities will be closed during this time; however the parking facility gates will be left open after the evening program. For further information, please call (605) 574-2523.
