The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 30, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Big Cypress National Preserve will be conducting prescribed fires within the Turner River Unit on 11/30 and 12/1. The operation will take place east of Concho Billie Trail and north of Mud Lake and Mud Lake Bypass Trails.

Today, 11/30, crews will be securing fire lines and structures within the proposed burn area. On Thursday, 12/1 aerial ignition will be used while crews maintain the defined parameters of the fire.

Smoke dispersion is expected to be good with little to no effect on local communities or roadways. The operation will take place in dwarf cypress and pineland communities and is within a 7,000 acre perimeter.
