Tuzigoot Night Under the Stars
On the evening of Saturday, May 12, 2012, the National Park Service will host an astronomy talk and star party at Tuzigoot National Monument, located at 25 Tuzigoot Road in Clarkdale, Arizona.
The monument will open at 7:00 p.m., and Ranger Sharlot Hart will kick off the night's events with the astronomy talk at 7:30. Tuzigoot pueblo will be lit for the evening, though the pueblo and Tavasci Marsh trails will be closed. The visitor center will be open until 8:00, and Astronomers of Verde Valley will have their telescopes out and guide visitors through the beauty of the night sky from 8:00 until 10:30. Rangers will give constellation talks periodically throughout the evening, and kids can complete special activity books to earn Junior Ranger Night Explorer patches!
Participants should bring comfortable shoes, water, insect repellant, and binoculars if they have them. Flashlights are allowed, but all lights must be covered with red filters.
