French and Indian War Encampment – Crossroads of Culture

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 15, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Crossroads of Culture at Fort Stanwix National Monument, Saturday, May 26th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday, May 27th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

On this 258th anniversary of the French and Indian War, Fort Stanwix National Monument presents "Crossroads of Culture," a historic immersion experience for the entire family. Come learn about the war in which the English and French battled for colonial domination and ultimately established Britain as the dominant colonial power in the eastern half of North America and set the stage for the American Revolution.

Reenactors will be on hand to guide you through this turbulent time in our nation's history. Join them in hands on activities and learn about colonial life on the frontier and military operations at Fort Stanwix. Listen to 18th century music, tremble as the canons roar, and witness cultural demonstrations! Activities will be ongoing and overlapping! As a finale to the weekend, the Haudenosaunee Dancers will perform social dances of the Oneida Indian culture at 3:00 pm on Sunday. Come and experience your America!
