Take Your Parent Outside Day is July 21st

HARKERS ISLAND, NC - Are you looking for some fun, outdoor activities that you can do as a family? Then make plans to join Park Rangers as we celebrate "Take Your Parent Outside Day" on Saturday, July 21, at the Harkers Island Picnic Area of Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Activities begin at 12:00 Noon and end at 4:00 PM. You can participate in all the activities or just a few; the choice is yours. Scouts, home-school groups, and other organizations are asked to call ahead to help us plan for your group.

Activity Schedule

Wildlife Is Not The Only Life On The Outer Banks 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Learn from local Master Gardeners how to identify some beautiful native plants.

Take a Hike 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Enjoy some breathtaking views while walking along the Soundside Trail.

Nature And Technology Can Work Together 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Use a Global Positioning System (GPS) locate the required points on a scavenger hunt.

Learn to Fish 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Fishing is great family fun. Learn to use surf rod, cast a net and rake for clams.

Kite Flying All Day

Make a kite and see how high it can fly

Junior Ranger Adventures All Day

Hands on activities are a great way to explore Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Seaside Treasure ID All Day

Found it on the beach but don't know what it is? Bring it to us and we'll discover its identity together.

Seaside Crafts All Day

Nature provides supplies to make fun and challenging crafts to take home.

Ranger Photo Op All Day

Ever want to be a ranger? Put your face on the body and have your picture taken.

Cast and Catch All Day

Practice your aim while casting for plastic fish.
