Fall Hours for Boat Inspection Stations at Blue Mesa Reservoir

Fall Hours for Boat Inspection Stations at Blue Mesa Reservoir

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 24, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Boaters on Blue Mesa Reservoir should be aware of the following fall closures and hours changes. Beginning September 4, Elk Creek, Lake Fork, and Iola ramps and inspection stations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those hours will be in effect through September. October hours will be 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with Iola ramp closing October 31. Elk Creek and Lake Fork ramps will remain open until water at those ramps freezes. On Nov. 1, inspections for Elk Creek and Lake Fork launch ramps will be arranged by calling 970-209-2335. Boaters are reminded that it is their responsibility to be off the lake before the ramps close for the day. Entrance and exit inspections are required as they have been during the summer months. Watch for updates at www.nps.gov/cure or call the Elk Creek Visitor Center at 970-641-2337, ext. 205.

Due to freezing temperatures and the potential of freezing water lines, decontamination may not be available after September. Vessels containing high risk water, suspected aquatic invasive species, or are dirty, crusty, or slimy, may be denied access until they are decontaminated at a certified facility.

Superintendent Connie Rudd would like to thank this summer's boaters for their cooperation with this vital resource protection program. "Boaters have been very responsive to helping us protect the fisheries and recreational values of Curecanti," Rudd said. "Inspections are moving rapidly thanks to boats that are cleaned, drained and dry, with plugs pulled, covers off, and live wells open."

As a reminder, fall thunderstorms and cooling temperatures make situational awareness even more important than in the summer. Stay tuned to the weather and be alert to changes.
