Tejido Fronterizo Opening

The National Park Service is pleased to announce the opening of a new art exhibit in its Los Paisanos and Abrazos Galleries. Border Artists and Juntos Art Association have joined their artistic and creative talents for the first time to present the Tejido Fronterizo / Border Tapestry Exhibit, exploring the interweaving of Mexican and American cultures and thei perpetual evolution in our unique border region through a variety of art forms. Students from Eastlake and le Dorado Hight Schools in El Paso and Almad/Arte Charter High School in Las Cruces are displaying their work on this same theme in the Abrazos Gallery, located in the west wing of the visitor center, in conjunction with the professional art exhibit in the Los Paisanos Gallery.

A catered opening reception will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 form 3-6p.m. with a student award ceremony scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Local trio Ceiba will play a variety of musice on an array of acoustic instruments rooted in Mexican and other Latin American cultural traditions from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, October 20 from 1:00-4:00 p.m., there will be a guest speaker panel. Featured speakers include Christian Gerstheimer, Art Curator at the El Paso Art Museum; Dr. Yolanda Leyva, Dean of UTEP History Department; and Elizabeth Zarur, Art Professor at New Mexico State University.

On Saturday, October 27 from 1:00-4:00 p.m., come meet and hear directly from many of hte artists about their work and inspriation during this special program.

The Los Paisanos Gallery is open Mondays-Fridays from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and weekends by request. The Abrazos Gallery is open daily from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed on occasional Mondays).
