2012 Holiday Closures at Travetine Nature Center

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 14, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

The Travertine Nature Center and Visitor Center in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area will be closed December 25th and January 1st so that our employees can enjoy the holidays with their families. In addition, the Travertine Nature Center will be closed January 9-11, 2013 for cleaning. Crews will be cleaning and doing general maintenance to the Nature Center. The Nature Center will reopen Jan. 12, 2013 at 9:00 AM.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2013, Chickasaw National Recreation Area will no longer have staff at the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce building. All services provided by National Park Service staff at the Visitor Center will be moved to the Travertine Nature Center. Services at the Nature Center include information and maps. Boat permits for the Lake of the Arbuckles boat ramps and America the Beautiful Senior and Access Pass cards can also be purchased at the Nature Center.

"Park staff have been working out of the Chamber of Commerce building for about 8 years," commented park Superintendent Bruce Noble, "and this arrangement has made for a great relationship between the park and the Chamber. We leave with complete certainty that this wonderful relationship will continue and we sincerely thank Shelly Sawatzky and the Chamber for the outstanding support they have provided to the park."

We regret any inconvenience that this relocation may cause park visitors.
