Women's Rights National Historical Park continues its second annual Winter Film Festival by showing the documentary film Voices of Civil Rights on Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.
Voices of Civil Rights presents the stories of individuals who experienced the civil rights era of the 1940s - 1960s. Their oral histories capture a powerful period in American history when thousands of people joined forces to battle for equal rights. The running time of Voices of Civil Rights is 50 minutes.
Women's Rights National Historical Park commemorates and preserves the sites associated with the First Women's Rights Convention, held in 1848 in Seneca Falls."We are proud to be part of the National Park system, and we invite everyone to join us in celebrating our shared history and culture through film," said Superintendent Tammy Duchesne. "The Winter Film Festival is a fun way to learn about our national history," added Superintendent Duchesne.
The park is showing the film as part of its celebration of African American History Month. "The Declaration of Sentiments that was presented at the First Women's Rights Convention states that all men and women are created equal," said Duchesne. "We are inspired by the courage and sacrifice of those who dedicated themselves to this ideal and to the struggle for freedom and equality in our great country."
All Winter Film Festival showings will occur at 12:00 Noon on Fridays and Saturdays at the Women's Rights National Historical Park Visitor Center, located at 136 Fall Street in Seneca Falls.All film showings are free of charge.The Winter Film Festival films are intended for a general audience.Visitors are encouraged to call if they are interested in a particular showing as film lengths vary.
