Midsummer Program and Evening Concert at Chellberg Farm

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 14, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Celebrate summer on Saturday, June 22 with a traditional Midsummer Celebration from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and a Summer Solstice Evening Concert from 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s historic Chellberg Farm.

Enjoy an afternoon of traditional dance, children’s activities and other summer fun as you learn how the area’s Swedish immigrants celebrated Midsummer, the longest day of the year. A highlight of the event is the raising of a newly decorated Maypole at 1:00 p.m. You can even bring flowers from home and help in the age-old custom of decorating the Maypole. The afternoon will also feature the children's dance group, Nordikids and Dans Norden, a group from Indianapolis, who will perform wearing colorful, traditional costumes.

Return to Chellberg Farm and enjoy the last hours of daylight with the “Summer Solstice Evening Concert." This outdoor concert takes place from 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in front of the Chellberg Farmhouse and features the band Trillium. This four-person ensemble performs an energetic array of traditional American music including, folk, ragtime, and bluegrass. Bring a blanket or chairs and possibly a picnic for your family and friends.
