FLAGSTAFF AREA NATIONAL MONUMENTS TO HOST CLIMATE FRIENDLY PARKS CELEBRATION

FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA - Join the Flagstaff Area National Monuments - Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon, Wupatki - as we celebrate one year as a certified Climate Friendly Park! The Climate Friendly Parks event will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 10 am- 2 pm at Walnut Canyon National Monument.

While at the Climate Friendly Park event, families can participate in fun sustainability-focused activities while learning more about the Climate Friendly Parks program. The activities are designed to help participants explore energy conservation, water conservation, recycling, and purchasing environmentally friendly items. Families will receive a prize for completing all four activities.

The Climate Friendly Parks program was developed by the National Park Service to help parks reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce water and energy consumption, increase sustainability programs in daily operations, and spread the message of environmental stewardship to park personnel and visitors. Receiving the Climate Friendly Park certification required considerable effort on the part of park employees. Every division in the park worked collaboratively to collect baseline data on greenhouse gas emissions, identify park-wide solutions to address climate change, and develop a plan to incorporate sustainability into all aspects of our operations.

For more information about the upcoming Climate Friendly Park event please contact Tim McKinley via email ate-mail us or phone at 928-526-1157 extension 274.
