The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 29, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

Tucson, AZ - Saguaro National Park is announcing road closures in both districts of the park over this holiday weekend.

Tucson Mountain District, (west): The Golden Gate Road, north of the Bajada Loop Road, up to the Picture Rocks Road remains closed due to flash flood damage which occurred on Tuesday, August 26 after the district received over 1.85 inches of rain during the evening hours. This road closure also restricts access to the Ez-kim-in-zin picnic area and the Sendero / Esperanza trailhead. All trails remain open in the Tucson Mountain District, though there are areas of damage and hikers are encouraged to use caution.

Rincon Mountain District, (east): The Cactus Forest Loop Road and the Javelina Picnic Area road will be closed on Monday, September 1 from 6am to 10am for the 45th Annual TMC Saguaro National Park Labor Day Run. Only registered runners will be allowed past the kiosk during the race event. This is an annual event hosted by the Southern Arizona Roadrunners and consists of an 8 mile run around the loop or a 5k fun run down to the picnic area.

The Cactus Forest Loop road will remain closed until 10am, after which the area will reopen. All other trails and trailheads not along the race course will remain open. The Rincon Mountain Visitor Center will open at 6am and remain open throughout the day.
