POINT REYES, CALIFORNIA - Point Reyes National Seashore will be changing hours and services as we prepare for the return of school children from around the Bay Area. With the end of the Labor Day Weekend and the traditional summer vacation season, Point Reyes National Seashore will gear up to serve thousands of school children and their teachers.
* The Bear Valley Visitor Center will continue to be open from 10 am until 5 pm on weekdays and from 9 am to 5 pm on weekends and holidays.
* Beginning on Oct. 1, the Point Reyes Lighthouse and Visitor Center will be open Friday through Monday from 10 am until 4:30 pm. Visitors may tour the lensroom between 2:30 and 4 pm, though high winds may close the stairs to the lighthouse.
* The Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center at Drakes Beach will be closed until the end of December when elephant seals return to the beaches and gray whales migrate along Point Reyes.
The change in hours will allow park staff to serve the thousands of school children who visit every year and use the park as a living laboratory for learning about the science beneath stream ecology, the traditions of the Coast Miwok, and the annual migrations of elephant seals and gray whales. Free ranger-guided programs for the general public are scheduled for the weekends. For more information on specific hours and opportunities to explore Point Reyes National Seashore and a schedule of Ranger-led programs, visit the park website at https://www.nps.gov/pore.
