Catoctin Mountain Park Cancels Firewood Permit Program

The Catoctin Mountain Park Firewood Permit Program, announced Oct. 15, 2014, has been cancelled. A recently funded Hazardous Fuel Reduction Contract will engage contractors to reduce concentrations of hazardous fuel in specified areas, and eliminates the need for the previously announced collection policy.

Current firewood collection policy for camperswill remain in effect. The policy, defined by 36 CFR §2.1(4) can be found at.

Catoctin Mountain Park is one of over 400 units administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The park Visitor Center, located on State Route 77 three miles west of Thurmont, Maryland, is open daily from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Visitor Center will be closed on Federal Holidays November through February.
