WHO: Anyone interested in leasing a historic Army building as a residence, bed-and-breakfast or not-for-profit organization.
WHAT: Open house for potential leaseholders at Sandy Hook's Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Proving Ground National Historic Landmark. Three Requests for Proposal are open through Friday, April 17 to lease six buildings: two as residences, two as bed-and-breakfasts and two for not-for-profit organizations.
WHEN: Sunday, March 22, 1 PM to 3 PM.
WHERE: The Sandy Hook Chapel at Gateway's Sandy Hook Unit. (Some buildings available for lease will be open for walkthroughs from 2-3 PM.) Directions to the Hook are at https://www.nps.gov/gate/planyourvisit/sandyhookdrivingdirections.htm. After entering Sandy Hook, drive north for six miles. Go left at the Y intersection. The Chapel is a white wooden building about one mile up on the left, just before the ferry dock and U.S. Coast Guard property.
WHY: Gateway National Recreation Area will lease vacant but historically significant buildings within the former Army fort so that they may be preserved. This is the pilot stage of leasing Fort Hancock buildings and the beginning of Fort Hancock's reawakening into the vital, vibrant community that existed here for decades.

About Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Proving Ground National Historic Landmark
Fort Hancock is located within the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. The peninsula has played a major role in the defense of New York Harbor from colonial days to the present. Fort Hancock, a U.S. Army fort, was established in 1895 and operated until it was deactivated in 1974. Most of the landmark is located in the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area.
