The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 27, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

In celebration of National River Cleanup Day, the Obed Wild and Scenic River will have an annual Obed River clean up on Saturday, May 16. Participants are asked to meet at the Obed Visitor Center at 208 North Maiden Street in Wartburg at 8:30 a.m. (EDT). Volunteers are asked to bring water, insect repellent, sun block and wear sturdy shoes.

Volunteers share their time and talents and are worth their weight in gold at the Obed Wild and Scenic River. To show appreciation for their invaluable efforts, we would like to invite anyone who has volunteered at the Obed Wild and Scenic River during the past year and participants of this event to return to the Obed Visitor Center at 12:00 p.m. for a volunteer appreciation potluck lunch. Burgers, veggie burgers, lemonade, tea and water will be provided, and everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to share.

For more information about this event, please call the Obed Visitor Center at (423) 346-6294.
