A long period southwesterly swell is bringing an increased risk of rip currents and large shore break along the south facing beaches of Marin County today and through this evening. Beaches affected include, but are not limited to, Drakes and Limantour Beaches within Point Reyes National Seashore and Stinson Beach within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
A beach hazard statement for rip currents means that conditions are present to support a heightened risk of strong rip currents. People walking along the beach should never turn their back to the ocean. Fisherman should avoid fishing from rocks or jetties. Swimmers caught in rip currents should swim parallel to the coast to escape the rip current before trying to swim for shore. Swimmers should always swim near a lifeguard.
