UPCOMING EVENTS AT LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA SEPT 4 TO OCT 3

BOULDER CITY, Nevada. -The following events are happening at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 4 to Oct. 3.

Evening Program: Sunset Yoga, Sept 4

Join a ranger at Rocky Point Overlook at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 and enjoy the view of the Boulder Basin while doing yoga poses and light stretching. Connect with the beauty of nature and the natural sounds. Ranger Chat: Public Lands - Treasures of Southern Nevada, Sept 5 and 6

Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 5 and 6 to learn about the variety of public lands that surround the Las Vegas Valley. Call 702-293-8990, for more information.

Ranger Chat: Tarantulas and the T Hawk,Sept 12

Join a ranger at the Lake Mohave Katherine Landing Marina at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 to learn about the relationship between these two misunderstood creatures. Call 928-754-3272, for more information.

Evening Workshop: Night Sky Photography, Sept 12

Join instructor Aaron Leifheit from Outside Las Vegas Foundation and guest instructor, Chelsea Kennedy, from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 12 to gain a higher level of skill in night sky photography. They will share the tricks of night sky photography and students will leave with many night sky pictures. This program is $75 per person and is limited to 20 participants. Ranger Program: Seeds of the Southwest, Sept 13

Join a ranger at 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Lake Mead Visitor Center to learn about the beauty of native seeds of the Mojave Desert and the variety of plants this environment produces throughout the year. Not only were these seeds instrumental in Native American diets, but today are invaluable in Lake Mead's restoration efforts.Join a ranger for a seed ball making party and help make a difference in the parks desert landscaping efforts. WON Bass U.S. Open Fishing Tournament, Sept 14-16

Around 300 anglers from across the world will compete in the 33rd Annual WON BASS US Open Sept. 14-16 at Lake Mead. The tournament has been called the toughest west coast tournament ever. Recovery in the Park, Sept 19

Visit the National Park Service booth from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Bullhead City Community Park. Maps and information about Lake Mead National Recreation Area will be available.

Evening Program: Chocolate and Beer Pairing, Sept 19

Join the Western National Parks Association, at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Lake Mead Visitors Center for a Taza chocolate and beer pairing. Must be 21 to sign up and proof of I.D. is required at the event.Taza chocolate is Mexican chocolate;the tradition of stone ground cacao and sugar dates back to the Mayans. This treat was highly sought after, especially on the trade routes, like the Old Spanish Trail, which runs through Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This series is a fee program and is and is limited to 25 participants. Call 702-293-8990, for more information and to make a reservation.

Las Vegas Triathlon Sept 19

Around 500 triathletes will run, bike and swim through Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 19 during the Las Vegas Triathlon. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Then, athletes will bike along Lakeshore Road and Northshore Road. The race concludes with a run along River Mountains Loop Trail and Boulder Beach. Visitors to Lake Mead may experience delays along Lakeshore and Northshore roads. Drivers should use caution when passing cyclists. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. Cycling abreast is not permitted within Lake Mead NRA. Sunset Program: Bats - Friend or Foe, Sept 25

Join a ranger at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Boulder Beach Amphitheater to explore bat myths and learn how bats benefit us. An added bonus will be watching the sun set over the lake. Call 702-293-8990, for more information.

Entrance fees will be waived at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 26 for National Public Lands Day. Fees for camping, lake use or use of concessions still apply.

National Public Lands Day, Sept 26

Join rangers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 for National Public Lands Day at Pyramid Canyon, Colorado River Heritage Greenway Park and Trails. There will be ranger-led hikes, arts and crafts, live animals, fishing and a treasure hunt. The Explore RV will be there and Jr. Ranger booklets will be available for distribution. At 10:30 a.m., join a ranger for an informative talk on the local history of the Colorado River and the construction of the Davis Dam. At 11:30 a.m., join a ranger to learn about native plants and their uses.Call 702-293-8990, for more information.

Ranger Program: Litter clean-up Sept 26

Join rangers for a litter clean-up Sept. 26, event registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the clean-up starts at 9 a.m. The first 100 volunteers will receive a National Public Land's Day coupon that will give them one-time free access to a public land on a different date. The clean-up will be focusing on an area of the park that was heavily used during the summer. Volunteers of all ages welcome, but anyone under the age of 18 will need a parental approval form signed by a parent or guardian. Colorado Heritage Day, Sept 26

Saints and Sinners Half Marathon, Sept 26

Around 1,000 runners will race through Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 26 during Saints and Sinners Half Marathon and Relay. C.A.S.T. for Kids, Oct 3

Children with disabilities will have the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing at the annual C.A.S.T. for Kids event at Lake Mead Marina Oct. 3.
