Registration for Personal Kayaks Stored in Bartlett Cove

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 4, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

BARTLETT COVE, AK -Kayaking is a major visitor activity in Glacier Bay National Park. For convenience to local residents andemployees, the Superintendent has made available the use of designated locations and storage racks to allow visitors and employees to store their personally owned kayaks within the park boundaries.

In recent years, the number of kayaks stored seasonally in Bartlett Cove has grown. Currently, many kayaks are not labeled and there is no way to identify the owners for contact. To reduce the number of abandoned kayaks, and to ensure current information with owners, all personal kayaks stored in Bartlett Cove now require a numbered registration tag attached to the bow carrying handle.

Free registration and tag issuance for personal kayaks is available through the month of September at the Visitor Information Station during normal business hours (Daily 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM). Park staff will advise kayak owners of available space and location for proper kayak storage. The NPS is not responsible for loss or damage to any personal kayak while stored in racks or on shore in Bartlett Cove. Please note that unregistered kayaks may be considered abandoned property and removed from the park.
