The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 14, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Hog hunting season opens Saturday, Sept. 26, in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Come participate in a 45 minute informative program about this nonnative species; find out how hogs got in the park and why the Big South Fork is one of the very few national parks that allows them to be hunted. Meet Ranger Mary Grimm at 9:30 a.m. (ET) at the Bandy Creek Amphitheater. Wildlife Technician Shane Kinsey and Law Enforcement Ranger Tom Barnes will be present to answer any questions about the current status of hogs in the park and hunting regulation. Park hog hunting permits can be obtained at Bandy Creek Visitor Center, Park Headquarters, or online for $5.00. In case of rain, the program will be at the Bandy Creek Visitor Center.

This interpretive program is free of charge and wheel chair accessible. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Everyone is welcome. For directions or additional information, please call the Bandy Creek Visitor Center at (423) 286-7275.
