16th Annual Obed Adopt-A-Crag a Huge success

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 21, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

On Sept. 12, over 80 volunteers helped with projects including trail restoration and several beautification projects, one of which resulted in the removal of over 50 tires from the park! The efforts of these caring climbers left the park looking clean and beautiful.

This stewardship event was a partnership with the East Tennessee Climbers Coalition and the National Park Service that resulted in over 400 hours of volunteer service.

This event epitomizes climber conservation at a local level and shows how much climbers truly care about the places they recreate in. This successful partnership event is another great step towards preserving the Obed’s natural environment for future generations to enjoy.

If you are interested in more information about this event or other volunteer opportunities, please contact the Obed Wild & Scenic River Volunteer Coordinator at 423-346-6294.
