Fort Bowie National Historic Site Visitor Center Autumn Schedule

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 7, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Bowie, AZ - Starting October 8, 2015, Fort Bowie National Historic Site Visitor Center will be open Thursday through Monday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Fort Bowie National Historic Site including the ruins areas and hiking trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Access to the visitor center and fort ruins is a self-guided easy to moderate three mile round trip interpretive trail from the trailhead on Apache Pass Road.

Schools and other groups seeking a ranger-led program should call the park in advance to make arrangements. When staffing permits, groups may arrange for the visitor center to be temporarily opened on a Tuesday or Wednesday, with advanced notice. Mobility impaired individuals can call for directions and use of the administrative road.

“The cooler temperatures of autumn make it a great time to visit Fort Bowie," stated Superintendent Allen Etheridge. “This is a great place for a weekend outing with the family to learn about the rich history of the United States. If you have never visited Fort Bowie, plan a trip and come learn about early western U.S. and Native American history. If you have been before, then it’s time to come again and bring a friend. Be prepared by wearing good walking shoes and bring plenty of drinking water."

For more information about visiting the park, go to www.nps.gov/fobo or call the visitor center staff at 520-847-2500, ext. 1.
