Centennial Series Continues with Bicycle Tour

SAVANNAH - On Sunday, March 20, 2016, Fort Pulaski National Monument will continue our centennial celebration of the National Park Service with the third event of the series.Bring your bike, helmet, and a sense of adventure, and join park staff on a guided bicycle ride around Cockspur Island. This special riding event will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the park visitor center. This behind the scenes ride will look at some of the historical features on the island outside of the famous fort. We will be talking about the history of the island and about the management issues that affect the preservation of the resources with special guest, Superintendent Melissa Memory.

There is no additional charge to participate in the bicycle tour. Visitors are asked to arrive at the park visitor center 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.Distance covered will be approximately six miles and the tour should last about 2 ½ hours. To participate, please be sure to bring a bicycle in proper working order. There are no bicycle rentals available at Fort Pulaski National Monument. Bicycle helmets are required for all participants.Make sure to pack some snacks, drinks, and dress appropriately for the weather. We will be riding on a mix of pavement, packed trails, and grass. Road bikes are not suitable for this ride.
