On Saturday, June 18, Fort Stanwix National Monument will host a Junior Ranger Day festival. Family friendly activities for children of all ages will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Events will be led by park staff and park partners, the Rome Historical Society and YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, as part of the Active Trails program. Activities will take place indoors and outdoors at Fort Stanwix and the Rome Historical Society and are free of charge.
From 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., children are encouraged to bring their bikes and challenge their skills on an obstacle course, taking place at the Rome Historical Society. Utica Bike Rescue, organizers of this “bike rodeo," will also conduct a summer safety bike check. A boot camp challenge course for kids will take from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., on the park lawn. Kids can enlist in the Continental Army and become a soldier for the day. Muster and drill sessions will take place 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1- 3:30 p.m. Craft activities, opportunities to color the “Monster Mural," toys and games, life-jacket relay races, and more will take place throughout the day.
“This event will be fun for the whole family and with multiple ways to enjoy the park," said Park Ranger William Sawyer, “From cycling, to art and history, and even just good old-fashioned play, there’s something at Fort Stanwix for everyone."
Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission
