Seneca Falls, NY - American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and Women's Rights National Historical Park are partnering for National Parks on the Air event to mark the National Park Service Centennial. ARRL hopes that this program will encourage HAM radio operators to learn more about national parks in their area, challenge them to explore new public lands, and share their hobby with the next generation.
The Squaw Island Amateur Radio Club (SIARC) will activate communications from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at Women's Rights National Park visitor center at 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, NY on Sunday, July 10, 2016. This activation will consist of amateur radio operators and radio equipment used to contact other amateur radio operators in the United States and around the world.
Founded in 1914, the American Radio Relay League is the national association for amateur radio in the United States. Today, with more than 161,000 members, ARRL is the largest organization of radio amateurs in the United States and the primary source of information updates in the HAM radio world.
Amateur Radio is a hobby and public service whereby people set up and use two-way communications equipment. Over 750,000 Amateur Radio operators are licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, and are trained in communications techniques and basic electronics theory. It is fun, scientific, and educational.
Superintendent Ami Ghazala stated, "Women's Rights National Historical Park is thrilled to partner with the Squaw Island Amateur Radio Club to offer diverse opportunities in the Finger Lakes and beyond." The public is invited to visit the park and learn more about amateur radio.
