Hey Kids! The park rangers at Homestead National Monument of America need YOU and your families to join them at the Education Center on Saturdays in July and early August, from 10 a.m. to noon, to become Nature Detectives! Homestead is seeking the help of all sleuths and spies, the inquisitive and the curious. The rangers need Nature Detectives by their side to search for clues on the ground and up in the sky. We will prowl the tallgrass prairie and into the forest, but don't be wary! You will discover birds, bugs, tracks and trails, plants, animals and whatever else our sleuthing unveils!
The programs are FREE of charge and reservations are not necessary. Nature Detectives will be sleuthing outdoors so please dress appropriately for the weather. Sunscreen and closed toe shoes are encouraged. Program length is subject to weather.
July 2-Birdie Basics Observe along the trails our feathered friends of all shapes,
sizes and behaviors. Learn to use these clues for basic bird
identification.
July 9- Creek Critters Ever wonder what's living in the mud in Cub Creek?
Park rangers will bring the creek to you so you can find
out! Learn how these creek critters can indicate the health
of creeks and ponds.
July 16- The Great Bug Hunt Calling all bug hunters! Plan on catch-releasing all kinds
of insects in this fun insect investigation.
July 23- Prairie Plant Prowl Prowl the tallgrass prairie with the rangers. Look very
closely at the plant life and learn tips along the way about
basic plant identification.
July 30- Who Goes There? Nature Detectives are needed to locate tracks, trails,
animal homes and much more!
