Capitol Reef National Park will celebrate the 100th birthday of the National Park Service by giving special programs on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016. All ranger talks will celebrate this momentous milestone, culminating with an evening program on the History of the National Park Service, given at the Fruita Campground amphitheater at 8:30 pm.The campground amphitheater is located 1.5 mile (2.4 km) south of the visitor center on the Scenic Drive.
"Birthdays are a time to celebrate and we want everyone to join the party," said Acting Chief of Interpretation Cindy Micheli. "National parks belong to all Americans and offer something for everyone -so come to Capitol Reef and celebrate with us. Enjoy birthday cake and join rangers in singing our Happy Birthday song at the visitor center at 10:00 am".
The National Park Service was established on Aug. 25, 1916. The United States was the first country in the world to set aside its most significant places as national parks to be enjoyed by all.Some parks commemorate notable people and achievements, others conserve magnificent landscapes and natural wonders, and all provide a place to have fun and learn something.
