Four Month Construction Project will Bring Improved Picnic Areas and Beach Access
STINSON BEACH, CA -- Construction will commence this week on the second of a three-phase project to make accessibility and infrastructure improvements to Golden Gate National Recreation Area facilities at Stinson Beach.
The project’s first phase - the rehabilitation of the Stinson Beach Waste Water Treatment and Disposal System - is near completion. The round of construction beginning this week includes:
• a new wooden boardwalk providing accessible beach access
• improved picnic areas, including new barbecues, benches, tables, water fountains and concrete pads
• improved pathways to the central and north comfort stations and picnic areas
• improved beach access and concrete slab at the central comfort station
This second project phase is expected to last four months. Visitors may encounter some temporary reduction in picnic areas during the upgrade.
Renewable Energy Project Begins in October
A final project phase, expected in late October, will include installation of photo-voltaic panels within the Stinson Beach maintenance yard. The installation will provide near net zero annual electrical costs for the Waste Water Treatment and Disposal System. The total cost of the three-phase project is approximately $4,500,000.
