The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 16, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Devils Tower National Monument Celebrating 110 Years and #National Public Lands Day!

President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower as the nation's first national monument on Sept. 24, 1906. Come and celebrate 110 years on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 - which also coincides with the 23rd National Public Lands Day!

In celebration of this very special day a unique education program will launch. The Junior Climbing Ranger program offers youth an in-depth view of the history, ethics, demonstrations of rock climbing techniques, and reverence for Native Americans at Devils Tower. After the completion of a Junior Climbing Ranger booklet participants will be awarded a Junior Climbing Ranger badge.

Activities Offered For The Day:

* 10:00 am and 2:00 pm - Junior Climbing Ranger Programs

* 6:00 pm - Bats Living in the Tower (special presentation)

* 6:50 pm - Bat listening walk on the Tower Trail. Rangers will have hand-held acoustic detectors.

All entrance fees to the Monument will be waived. All activities meet at the new climbing demonstration wall near the start of the Tower Trail.
