Campground Reopened

Campground Reopened

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 16, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

The Lava Flow Campground at Craters of the Moon National Monument will reopen on the evening of Friday, September 16. All campsites will continue to be available on a first come- first served basis. The campground will remain accessible for public camping until the road is closed by snow later in the season.

Although the campground has been improved in many ways, special efforts were taken to retain the unique lava formations that give the campground its distinctive name. The "new" campground features wider campground loop roads and parking areas, additional accessible campsites and additional pull-through campsites to accommodate trailers and RV's. A new fee machine will soon be available to provide more convenient payment options. Campsites will be $15/night with reduced prices of $7.50/night for senior and access pass holders.
