Based on visitation trends observed over the past several years, we have made the decision to re-program our staffing budget in order to re-open on April 15, 2017, as opposed to on May 1st, as in previous years.New England states have school vacation during the last two weeks of April, and locals and visitors alike come to the Province Lands to hike, bike, stroll along the beaches, and visit Provincetown. Rangers at the visitor center will be available to offer programs and assist people in navigating the many spring activities.
After the visitor center closes on October 15th, fire permits for Race Point, Herring Cove, and Head of the Meadow Beaches can be reserved and picked up at the Race Point Ranger Station, 200 Race Point Rd., Provincetown, 508-487-2100 ext. 0.As always, the visitor center observation decks and restroom at the parking lot will remain open year-round.
North District Interpretation Supervisor Jody Anastasio thanks everyone for a wonderful Centennial season.It has been a pleasure to work with Provincetown and Truro organizations on events such as the Year-Rounders' Festival, Truro Agricultural Fair, and on outreach with local youth groups.Just because the visitor center is closed doesn't mean programming ends.Look for monthly offerings throughout the year.On October 21st, at 6:00 pm, we have "Night Patrol and the Orionids at Old Harbor."This program will offer an opportunity to tour the Old Harbor Life-Saving Station at night, and then walk the beach.It is timed so that if it is a clear night, we may see the Orionid meteor shower.Meet at the bathhouse at Race Point Beach, Provincetown.
The Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham remains open year-round.
IF YOU GO: The Province Lands Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm through Oct. 15, 2016. Staff members are available to answer questions, assist with planning activities, and provide hiking and bicycling trail information. The visitor center features exhibits on the Outer Cape's natural and cultural resources, orientation films, and a bookstore with interpretive items for sale, such as books, maps, games and puzzles. The 360-degree rooftop observation deck provides views of the surrounding dunes and sea. A listing of all of the National Seashore's programs is available at the two seashore visitor centers.
