Fatalities at Big Bend National Park

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 3, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

On October 24th, a visitor passed away while camping at Rio Grande Village. The visitors appears to have died in his sleep, and cause of death is still unknown.

On November 1st, a visitor passed away in his room at the Chisos Mountain Lodge. Park Rangers responded, administering CPR and using an AED, but attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful.

Big Bend National Park's staff is saddened by this loss of life, and extends their sympathies to the friends and families of these individuals.
