The Rock Creek Park multi-use trail will be closed between Porter Street NW and the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. while crews complete work to remove hazardous trees that was started in November. Beach Drive remains closed due to construction activities. To minimize the length of the temporary closure, the National Park Service has called in additional personnel so the work can be completed in only one day
During work, officers from the United States Park Police will be stationed at various locations along the closure to ensure everyone's safety and make sure pedestrians and cyclists don’t inadvertently enter the closed area.
National Park Service tree crews will be removing hazard trees adjacent to the multi-use trail from Porter Street south along Bleach Drive. As trees are removed, branches, trunks and large debris will fall across the multi-use trail and road surface.
The Sunday closure is necessary to mitigate impacts to construction activities on Beach Drive planned on other days of the week. Visit go.nps.gov/beachdrive for more information about the Beach Drive rehabilitation project.
