Park Rangers Investigate Possible Suicide at Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon, AZ - At approximately 12:30 am on Dec. 12, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call alerting rangers to an overdue individual at Grand Canyon National Park.

Responding park rangers located the vehicle of the individual near Twin Overlooks on Desert View Drive yesterday afternoon. After searching the area, rangers found the body of a female below the rim of the canyon. Today, rangers recovered and identified the body of 47-year-old Michelle Russell of Tempe, AZ.

An investigation is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner. No further information is available at this time.
