On Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 1 to 4 p.m. park service intern CJ Dee will be conducting an equestrian program at Melrose on the 3rd US Colored Cavalry during the Civil War. Do not miss out on the opportunity to learn more about this outstanding cavalry regiment composed of formerly enslaved men from this region and white officers from the north. CJ will be dressed out in a Union cavalry uniform and his horse will be wearing a McClellan saddle, which was the standard for federal cavalry during the Civil War.
To see the program, please go to the Melrose estate at 1 Melrose Montebello Parkway. Upon entering the park, follow the driveway to the parking area. CJ and his horse will be conducting programs just the other side of the fence from the picnic tables. For more information, please contact David Slay by phone at 601-446- 5790 ext. 19 or by email at David_Slay@nps.gov, or visit nps.gov/natc.
