Jr Wildland Firefighter Programs at National Lakeshore 2017

INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Meet Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Wildland Fire Crew and learn about their jobs and equipment at several national lakeshore locations this spring and summer. The program will be held on the following Saturdays at 11:00 am: May 20 at West Beach, June 17 at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, July 15 at the Dunewood Campground, August 19 at the Paul H. Douglas Center, and September 9 at the Dunewood Campground.

Upon completion of this 30-minute, hands-on program, children will receive their very own Junior Wildland Firefighter activity book and a Junior Wildland Firefighter patch.

The Indiana Dunes Visitor Center is located at 1215 North State Road 49, about one mile north of Interstate 94. The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is one of 417 units of the National Park System ranging from Yellowstone to the Statue of Liberty. Located in Northwest Indiana, the park includes 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and 15,000 acres of biodiverse beaches, woods, prairies, and marshes. Up to 2 million visitors come to the Indiana Dunes each year.
