Olympic National Park rangers working along with Olympic Mountain Rescue volunteers, Mason County Search and Rescue and Tacoma Mountain Rescue recovered the body of Zachary Krull, 20, of Livingston, New Jersey on Sunday. Krull’s identity is now confirmed and his family has been notified.
On July 1, 2017 Olympic National Park dispatch received a report of a deceased male located off-trail near Flapjack Lakes in the Staircase area of the park. The team was then organized and arrived July 2 to locate the body. A Northwest Helicopter was called in for recovery. The medical examiner has completed the autopsy and the final report is forthcoming.
Krull was reported missing in early April. Search efforts continued over the past 3 months with the help of many volunteers and multiple agencies. “Our deepest sympathies are with the Krull family and friends in this time of grief," said Acting Superintendent Lee Taylor. “We would like to express our gratitude to all of the agencies and individuals involved in the ongoing search efforts."
