BOULDER CITY, Nevada - The Wetlands Trail in Lake Mead National Recreation Area has reopened after a three-year closure.
The trail closed Feb. 10, 2014, for the construction of a new grade control structure in the Lower Las Vegas Wash. The structure will reduce erosion in the Las Vegas Wash to protect stability of the bridge. It will also reduce sedimentation transported from erosion in the wash into Lake Mead, as well as protect Lake Las Vegas Dam and outlet works.
The Wetlands Trail is a moderate 1.5-mile roundtrip trail with a 110-foot elevation change. It is located off Northshore Road just past mile marker one. The hike winds down a hill into a dry wash that leads to the banks of a flowing creek. This area is ideal for bird watching.
